The Unicity Feel Great System: A Natural Alternative to GLP-1 Injections

The Unicity Feel Great System is a two-product daily routine: Unimate, a polyphenol-rich yerba mate drink taken in the morning, and Balance, an orange fibre sachet taken before your two main meals. It is designed to help your gut produce more of its own GLP-1 and to blunt the insulin spike after eating — the opposite approach to injecting the hormone in.

I get asked about it constantly, usually by people who have read about GLP-1 injections and want to know whether there is another route. I have written before about what a GLP-1 actually is and why so many people stop making enough of their own — this piece is about the specific system I use with clients, what is in it, how to take it, and where it genuinely will not help.

Why do I use it instead of the injections?

Because of one question I ask every client who is on, or considering, a GLP-1 injection: what is your exit strategy? The injections work while you keep injecting. Stop, and nothing underneath has been repaired — the gut wall that should be making the hormone is in the same state it was before. The appetite comes back, and often so does the weight.

There are trade-offs on the way, too. A meaningful share of rapid weight loss comes from lean muscle and bone rather than fat, and as muscle mass falls your metabolism slows, which makes the weight harder to keep off afterwards. Because the injections suppress appetite, people tend to eat less overall and much less fibre — which can leave bile flow sluggish and the gallbladder unhappy. Receptor sites also desensitise over time, which is why doses tend to climb.

None of that makes the injections wrong. For some people they are a valuable stepping stone, particularly if the time on them is used to fix the diet and the gut underneath. But if you are looking for something that works with the mechanism rather than around it, this is the route I reach for.

What is actually in the system?

Unimate — mornings

A yerba mate drink, hot or cold, taken first thing. Yerba mate is dense in polyphenols, and polyphenols do two useful things: they feed the gut bacteria that protect the gut membrane, and their presence in the gut helps increase GLP-1 production. In practice most people notice it as quieter food noise and sharper focus through the morning. It is a pleasant thing to train on.

Balance — before your two main meals

An orange fibre sachet taken in water shortly before eating. The fibre matrix slows glucose absorption so the after-meal insulin spike is blunted rather than sharp, and it feeds the bacteria that produce the short-chain fatty acids your gut lining needs in order to make hormones — GLP-1 among them. This is the same principle as eating your salad before your carbs, which is what I ask clients to do anyway. The sachet is a floor under the days when that does not happen.

How do you take it?

  1. Unimate first thing in the morning, hot or cold.
  2. One Balance sachet in water shortly before lunch.
  3. One Balance sachet in water shortly before your evening meal.

For a month that means one box of Unimate and two boxes of Balance. Take it consistently — the gut needs to heal and rebalance before any of this shows up, so an occasional sachet will not tell you anything.

What do the figures say, and where do they come from?

Being straight with you about the numbers: the headline figures below are Unicity's own published figures for the system, not independent trial data I am citing. Read them as the company's claims and judge the system on what happens in your own body and your own bloods.

  • GLP-1 up by at least 60% with consistent use over three months.
  • An immediate 40% reduction in the insulin spike at each meal it is taken before.
  • For comparison, the injections raise GLP-1 by around 30%, but immediately.

So the trade is straightforward. The injection is faster and the supplement is slower, but the supplement is asking your gut to do the work rather than doing it for you — and it does not trigger reflux, it supports bile flow rather than stalling it, and there is no dose to keep climbing. What I actually judge it on with clients is blood tests, gut microbiome tests, and how people describe their energy, cravings and sleep three months in.

How long before you know if it is working?

Give it a fair three months. The first thing most people report is that the constant background chatter about food goes quiet, usually within a few weeks. Steadier energy after meals and fewer afternoon crashes tend to follow. Changes on paper — fasting glucose, HbA1c, triglycerides, liver markers — take longer, which is why I like to have a baseline blood test before someone starts.

Who does it suit, and who does it not?

Blood sugar swings and stubborn weight usually have a root cause. Book a consultation to find yours.

It tends to suit:

  • People with insulin resistance, afternoon energy crashes and cravings they cannot think their way out of.
  • People who have come off a GLP-1 injection and want something underneath them.
  • People carrying visceral weight around the middle alongside poor sleep, low mood or hormonal disruption.
  • People who know their fibre intake is nowhere near where it should be and want a reliable floor under it.

It is not the answer if you have an active gut condition that needs investigating first — H. pylori, parasites, significant dysbiosis, inflammatory bowel disease. Fibre into an inflamed or infected gut is not a kindness, and that work comes first. It is also not a fit if what you actually want is rapid weight loss on a deadline; that is not what this does.

It does not replace the food work

This is the part I will not soften. The system supports a gut that is being fed properly — it does not compensate for one that is not. Fibre with every meal, eaten first; polyphenols daily from berries, matcha, yerba mate and dark chocolate; a real gap between meals; a walk after eating. If you want the whole picture of how I put a day together, the full-day reset covers it. The supplements sit on top of that, not instead of it.

A firm word on medication

If you are on metformin, a GLP-1 injection, or anything else prescribed, do not stop or change it on your own account because you have read this. Talk to your GP. I am very happy to work alongside them, and often do.

Where to order it

Orders go directly to Unicity and ship from them — I do not hold or send out stock. I am registered as a distributor, which means Unicity pays me a small commission on orders placed through my link, and it costs you nothing extra. I am telling you that so you can weigh it. I recommend the system because of what I see in clients' bloods and microbiome results; the commission is a passthrough, not the reason.
